VJ’s Ashley Maxon works to help Newtown families

bluetVJ Account Supervisor Ashley Maxon, whose hometown is Newtown, Conn., joined with  former resident Kerin Sovern to raise more than $30,000 for the families affected by the massacre.

They did it by creating NewtownPride.com, an online store that sells “I Love Newtown” T-shirts as well as others saying “Love is Louder Than  Violence” and  “We Are Newtown.”

“This has been a really good channel for some of my emotions,” Ashley told The New York Daily News. “I feel terrible for the community there. This is how I can  help.”

All the proceeds from the T-shirt sales go to the  Sandy Hook PTSA and the victims’ families.

The president of PayPal, David Marcus, contacted Ashley and Kerin Thursday to let them know that he supports what they’re doing, and he waived all fees associated with transactions for their site.
